This sweatshirt exists for the same reason as the rest of LOOP & WEFT’s Old Sinker series: the original Tompkins sweat fabric nearly vanished when the craftsmen who knew how to run those machines retired. To bring that texture back properly, LOOP & WEFT turned to a 1970s Japanese sinker knitting machine in Wakayama and developed an original brushed fleece that captures the soft, fluffy feel of vintage sweats while holding its shape far better over time.
The fabric is thick and immediately warm, with a brushed interior that feels broken-in from the first wear. The loop structure is cleaner and more stable than older knits, avoiding the sagging and uneven shrinkage common in true vintage sweatshirts. Inspired by 1960s raglan crewnecks, this version adds a front V-gusset cut directly from the body and sewn with four needles, paired with a durable binder neckline. Raglan sleeves eliminate shoulder seams entirely, making the fit forgiving and easy to layer, while thick ribbing at the neck, cuffs, and hem keeps the silhouette structured. Sewn on a Union Special 36200 with four-needle flat seams, this is a sweatshirt built with the same seriousness as the fabric itself.

*Loop & Weft like to give a variance on their measurements from multiple units of the same size. This gives you a slight spectrum between sizes vs a hard number for one unit.*
Fit Notes: Tommy is wearing a size XL in this crewneck. As you can see from the charts, this brand fits a little smaller than others. He decided to size up to once more in these shirts this round because of their slim nature. We recommend you do the same. Luckily, this year they've given us XXL's! Tommy is 5'9," 165lbs, with a 40" chest.
