This piece exists because the Tompkins sweat nearly disappeared. When the original craftsmen retired, Loop & Weft went looking for a way to preserve that rare, fluffy texture and landed on a 1970s Japanese sinker knitting machine in Wakayama. The result is an original old sinker fleece that keeps the plush, cloud-like feel of Tompkins knits while introducing a cleaner loop structure that holds its shape far better with wear and washing.
The fabric is thick, softly brushed on the inside, and immediately warm, with a texture that feels vintage the moment you pull it on. The surface develops character over time rather than collapsing, giving it that broken-in sweatshirt feel without the instability older machines were known for. The design pulls from 1960s raglan sweatshirts, finished as a turtleneck pullover for real cold-weather utility. Raglan sleeves remove shoulder seams entirely, allowing easy movement and a forgiving fit, while thick ribbing at the neck, cuffs, and hem keeps everything structured and comfortable. Sewn on a Union Special 36200 with four-needle flat seams, this is a sweatshirt built with the same seriousness as the fabric itself.

*Loop & Weft like to give a variance on their measurements from multiple units of the same size. This gives you a slight spectrum between sizes vs a hard number for one unit.*
Fit Notes: Tommy is wearing a size XL in this turtleneck. As you can see from the charts, this brand fits a little smaller than others. He decided to size up to once more in these shirts this round because of their slim nature. We recommend you do the same. Luckily, this year they've given us XXL's! Tommy is 5'9," 165lbs, with a 40" chest.
