The Story
First issued to US Air Force pilots in the early 1950s, the Type L-2B was designed as a streamlined alternative to the bulkier MA-1, stripping away excess pockets and insulation to give pilots a cleaner, more maneuverable jacket in the cockpit. It didn't stay military for long, quickly finding its way into American youth subcultures through the 1960s, where it became one of the more enduring silhouettes in workwear and rebel fashion. This Iron Heart interpretation keeps faith with the original pattern and materials while bringing the construction up to the standard the brand is known for. The outer shell is 4.8oz anti-static nylon with a tight twill weave, silky and scratch-resistant, treated with a non-fluorine resin coating for serious water repellency on top of the fabric's already naturally high resistance. Inside, a lightweight taffeta lining, tubular knit elasticated collar, cuffs and hem, a two-way YKK zipper, and two internal gun pockets with Iron Heart branded copper snaps finish out a jacket that wears exactly as good as it looks. This is our favorite jacket Iron Heart has ever created. It is their best work!

Fit Notes: Tommy is wearing an XL in this piece. He normally wears large in their non-denim jackets, but felt that this piece fit a bit smaller than most IH outerwear. It fit him perfectly. We would recommend sizing up once from your normal Iron Heart size on this one and twice if you don't know your size. Tommy is 5'9," 165lbs with a 41" chest.
