19oz - MIJ16 Genseki Selvedge - Heritage Denim Jacket

The MIJ16 Genseki Selvedge Heritage Jacket is built from the same 19oz unsanforized Japanese selvedge denim developed to showcase extreme texture and long-term evolution. Genseki translates to “raw ore,” a term used to describe stone in its unrefined, extracted state, and the concept carries naturally into this fabric. Dense, rough, and heavily textured, the denim has an unmistakably raw presence that feels deliberate from the first wear.

 

The fabric is woven using aggressively slubby and neppy yarns, producing an uneven surface with visible irregularity throughout. Low-tension weaving allows the yarns to relax and shift on the loom, amplifying the fabric’s hairiness and organic character. Beneath the indigo rope-dyed warp sits an earthy-toned weft that introduces warmth and depth, giving the jacket a layered look that becomes more pronounced as creases form and fades develop.

 

To maintain the denim’s coarse hand and surface character while removing uncertainty around shrinkage, the MIJ16 undergoes a Tempi treatment. This process shrinks the fabric while preserving its raw texture and structural integrity, keeping the jacket true to its unsanforized nature without compromising consistency.

 

Construction details reflect the full Made in Japan treatment throughout. The selvedge edge features an indigo, red, indigo micro-busted line, with a narrower width that allows the warp color to extend closer to the edge. Hardware is all metal, including iron buttons that will rust naturally over time and copper rivets that oxidize with wear. Two-tone stitching, reinforced seams, and a chainstitched hem reinforce the jacket’s durability. A Japanese sheepskin leather patch featuring the “Flower of Carnage” logo anchors the piece, while maple leaf embroidery completes the MIJ signature.
