ONI’s Ishikawadai denim represents one of the most distinctive fabrics in modern Japanese denim. The yarn is spun on a vintage Ishikawadai ring-spinning machine built in 1953 by Ishikawadai Seisakujo, a piece of equipment that runs at roughly one third the speed of modern machinery. That slow, deliberate process creates irregular, textured yarn with a raw, uneven character that modern high-speed spinning simply can’t replicate.
Those yarns are then dyed in ONI’s signature green-cast “secret” indigo, a shade that interacts beautifully with the uneven texture created by the Ishikawadai process. The result is denim that feels rugged and organic from the first wear, with a vintage personality that only deepens as the indigo fades. At 15oz, the fabric hits a sweet spot for everyday wear, offering a lighter weight that still carries ONI’s signature low-tension weave and substantial hand.
The Old Style Jacket pulls from the earliest era of workwear design, featuring simple, purposeful details inspired by house-brand garments from the early 1900s. The stripped-down construction keeps the focus on the fabric and silhouette, giving the jacket a rugged vintage character without unnecessary extras. That simplicity also makes it easy to wear day-to-day, pairing naturally with everything from denim to fatigue pants. Built from ONI’s distinctive denim, this piece captures the spirit of early workwear while offering the durability and aging potential that make these jackets so rewarding over time.
