orSlow's WWII 40's Coverall in black is one of those pieces where the fabric does most of the talking. The base is 100% linen, which already has enough natural texture and breathability to make it an interesting choice for a coverall, but the sumi coating is what sets it apart. Sumi, the same ink traditionally used in Japanese calligraphy and painting, is applied to the surface and gives the linen a deep, matte black with a subtle waxy hand that you can feel immediately. It also means the garment is going to move and crease in ways that reveal the linen underneath over time, so what starts as a flat deep black gradually develops real character through wear. The silhouette is pulled straight from 1940s American workwear, boxy and relaxed with donut button closure and two front patch pockets. This is a coverall that works as outerwear without trying too hard to be anything other than what it is.
